What is Through their eyes?
Through Their Eyes (TTE) is a specialist, child-centered therapeutic consultation model designed to support children affected by parental separation or conflict. The program safely amplifies the child’s voice without placing decision-making responsibility on them, translating their lived experience into developmentally informed feedback for professionals and caregivers.
It is a time-limited, non-forensic program that operates alongside mediation and related professional processes, ensuring that children feel emotionally safe, heard, and understood, while responsibility for decisions and outcomes remains firmly with the adult
Grounded in Gary Landreth’s child-centered play therapy principles and adapted for structured consultation work, insights gathered through the process are translated into clear, needs-based feedback for mediators, legal professionals, and caregivers, preserving the integrity of the child’s voice and supporting informed, child-focused decision-making

Theraputic approach and guiding principles
Through Their Eyes combines a child-centred therapeutic approach with clear guiding principles to ensure emotional safety, ethical clarity, and developmental appropriateness throughout the process.
Consultants establish a warm, accepting relationship where the child leads the pace, content, and mode of expression. The approach is trauma‑informed and grounded in a deep understanding of child development, ensuring children are never burdened with adult decision‑making responsibility.
The programme is underpinned by Gary Landreth’s core “be with” attitudes, which are woven throughout every session.
These principles prioritise trust, emotional safety, and connection, allowing children to explore their inner world through play, creativity, and symbolic expression.
Necessary boundaries are set only to ensure safety and ethical clarity. Insights are translated into developmentally informed, needs‑based feedback for professionals and caregivers, while responsibility for decisions remains firmly with the adults.
Be With Attitudes: I am here
I hear you
I understand
I care
I delight in youWhy dooes play and creativity matter?
For children, play is their primary language. While adults rely on words to express complex thoughts and emotions, children communicate through toys, creative materials, movement, and imagination.
Through play and creative expression, children are able to:
Process experiences of conflict or separation
Express feelings that may be difficult to verbalise
Explore their inner world in a safe, non‑threatening way
TTE honours play as a powerful and natural form of self‑expression, allowing the child’s voice to emerge authentically.
How the TTE Model works
The Through Their Eyes model operates as a collaborative triangle, ensuring clear roles, ethical boundaries, and shared understanding while keeping the child at the center.
Each part of the triangle has a distinct role. Through Their Eyes provides direct child consultation, Lighthouse Therapy Hub offers professional and ethical oversight, and referrers use the child’s voice to inform decision-making, without placing responsibility on the child
